Cricketing Loyalties- Published in the Sunday Times

Nasser Hussain’s father raised an important issue when he said the Asian community in Britain should support England rather than the countries of their origin. This is already happening in football; as far as cricket is concerned, however, it is a fact that for most Indians it would be difficult not to support India, because the game has had such a hold there since it was introduced by the English. There is a change taking place in the sense that the Indian community wanted England to go all the way and bring back the World Cup. The crunch would have come had India played England in the final.
