Dear Jonathan

In today’s article in the Guardian Jonathan Freedland ( COVID-19 lets tyrants wreak havoc as we look the other) says that Naredra Modi is cracking down on Muslim citizens and their leaders. He goes on to say right wing Hindus are branding, ‘corona jihad’ and that Modi expects to get the backing of the majority by his actions. This is my reply to him:

Dear Jonathan

In a bid to prove a point you succumbed to lazy journalism. Narendra Modi has fought an epic battle to safeguard the people of India from the CoronaVirus. The death rate in India is miniscule in comparison to the UK. He has not selectively protected Hindus. His proactive approach has saved all sections of society. Those screaming foul play with conspiracy theories are the usual suspects made up of left wing journalists and so called liberals. Having been sidelined by a honest reformer who has brought in daring changes in favour of the poor and underprivileged, Narendra Modi’s detractors are mass producing fake news which you have picked up without any checks and balances. Narendra Modi does not need to pick on minorities to please anyone. He already is an extremely well liked leader. Anyone flouting the lockdown restictions irrespective of what religion they belong to face the full force of the law. Fake news peddlars turn any law enforcement issue into a communal confrontation. I expected better from you.
