Sunny Hundal in his article on Boris Johnson’s visit to India(Boris Johnson’s trip to India won’t work, 21/4/) is a crude example of lazy journalism. Sunny assumes that Boris has gone to India to get Modi to sign up to the Western anti-Russia alliance. Boris has actually gone to India to make mega trade deals. India after all is one of the fastest growing economies of the world and a market of 1.3 billion people. Sunny further claims that Modi wants the majority Hindus to be the dominant force in India. Just as the UK is very much a Christian country where the Church blesses all important occasions such as the opening of the parliament, the majority Hindus also want an acknowledgement of their values and aspirations. This does not take anything away from the minorities. India actually is home to many persecuted minorities such as the Zoroastrians, Baha’is, Jewish people as well as Sikhs fleeing Afghanistan. It is also increasingly clear to Indian’s that the UK, US based human rights groups look away from abuses going on in these countries. India remains a vibrant democracy with no parallel anywhere in the world. The Constitution of India zealously guards the democratic process. India is in no mood to take moral lessons from ideologically and religiously driven pressure groups. Their agenda is to destroy India and it will not work.
