In today’s Guardian dated 27 July Mukul Kesavan retired associate professor of History at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi takes great pleasure in informing Guardian readers of the victory of Cockroach Janata Party protestors. They achieved the goal of getting the resignation of the education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He then goes on to make some strange comments. He contends that the protestors won because they were not visibly Muslim. He then stretches his imagination far away to the Mayor of New York. He hopes that the protest movement will produce many home grown Mamdani’s. Mamdani is an elected Mayor of New York while the protestors were a ragbag of anarchists, opportunists and anti national elements. Having seen the protest from the side-lines, Mukul and people like him wish that the protestors had not stopped. They want the protestors to fight on so that their real goal of causing civil unrest and dislodging PM Modi would succeed. The Left Kesavan says is disappointed that the protestors have a symbolic victory but not a substantial one.
He further claims that BJP has sanctioned violence against minorities in Manipur, Assam and Kashmir.
Dealing with Maoist guerillas and infiltrators from Bangladesh is not violence against minorities. It is safeguarding the nation. The minority in Kashmir was and is Hindu. If Kesavan could condemn the ethnic cleansing of Hindus from Kashmir I would admit that he is not agenda driven. He won’t and that exposes his intentions.
