How a generation’s broken dreams shattered Narendra Modi’s strongman status https://share.google/96rFZ31xuhdacwtd

Catherine Philp has lowered the reputation of the Times for writing one of the most cringeworthy, shameless and partisan articles. The subject should be of no surprise to the English readers of the Times: India! It is always nice to put the boot in on the natives of the former colony. Natives whose last rupee was taken away by the British Raj. The loot has no parallel in history. However I digress. So Catherine reports that there is massive unemployment in India. Modi has apparently failed. The people of India are fools to have elected him three times. Only someone as biased as Catherine cannot see the transformation of India in the last 13 years.
Millions of people have come out of poverty, the pace at which airports, roads, railways and other mega projects have been completed is phenomenal. We are talking here of a country of 1.4 billion. The poorest have been provided with access to clean water, free health care, free LPG cooking gas connections to tens of millions of low income households, India’s 18,000 villages have received electricity, 450 millions zero balance bank accounts opened with digital identities for the poor, millions of houses are being built for the rural and urban poor, digital payments which has made India a leader in real-time retail transactions, India is one the largest hubs for startup unicorns globally. There are many more. Catherine indulges in lazy journalism by regurgitating the long dead issue of the Cockroach Party protest. The world has moved on. Cockroach protest is history. Catherine mentions a grafiti at the protest which said : Bro stop F___ my country and get a wife. Catherine adds that this refers to Modi’s celibacy. For Catherine to make such a personal remark on a PM of the country is the pits.If she wrote similar stuff from China or her favourite Pakistan or the US or any other country she would be in big trouble. And yet she portrays Modi’s government as repressive. Referring to Shiva Naipaul’s India as a nation of million mutinies which never happened, Catherine wonders if there will be a mutiny now. It is a chimera. I would not hold my breath Catherine.
Like all anti India journalists Catherine seeks and gets the right media bites from Hindu hating Arundhati Roy and a Sushant Singh lecturer at Yale University who was conveniently in India. Catherine ‘worries’ AI will neutralise India’s IT industry. She need not. India is a leading player in AI innovation and is at a stage to lead the world in this field. India is now a big arms exporterI and it has become the pharmacy of the world supplying 20% of global generic medicine and nearly 40% to 50% of generic prescriptions to the US. Catherine should remember how keen the UK was to sign a free trade agreement with India as was the whole of Europe.
I could not help but laugh that Catherine claimed India had a tough year in international relations. She says with some fondness that Pakistan was in good books with Trump! No one would say that looking at the current conflict going on. Catherine has obviously had amnesia regarding the great success of the BRIC nations meeting recently. Modi is the only leader held in high regard by most world leaders. Articles like this only further lower the reputation of the Times meanwhile India moves on like a majestic elephant ignoring the irrelevant busybodies!
