Once again Amrit Dhillon writes an article which verges on hatred of Hindus.
Almost in all of her articles Amrit Dhillon ridicules, humiliates and portrays Hindus and Hinduism as some punch bag to relieve her frustrations and to please the English readers of the Times. Sycophancy she believes will get her brownie points.
In her above article she claims her hero Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips has been threatened for calling holistic medicine practitioners Quacks. Dr. Phillips she says has denounced the ancient Indian medicinal system of Ayurveda. He claims Ayurvedic practitioners pedal lies and that it is prescientific and predates understanding of Anatomy, Biochemistry etc. Ayurveda’s popularity, he claims, rests on ‘ cultural practices’. An ignorant statement. Ayurveda is popular all over the world. Amongst the famous people who believe in Ayurvedic healing powers is King Charles. He regularly visits Soukya International Holistic Health Centre in Bangalore. His everyday routines include Yoga, Meditation Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Therapies. Famous actress Julia Roberts, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and model Naomi Campbell have their faith in Ayurveda. If Dr. Phillips thinks all these people and tens of thousands of others all over the world are fools then he needs to learn some humility. Regarding Ayurveda being pre scientific, Dr. Phillips needs to look up his forefather by the name of Sushruta. He lived 600 BCE and is known even today as the father of Surgery. He did plastic surgery and herbal anesthesia. He was the author of Sushruta Samhita. The treatise addresses all aspects of general medicine, including diet, surgery, nosology, anatomy, developmental biology, therapeutics, toxicology, paediatrics and other subjects. He invented 120 surgical instruments some of which are even used today.
The fact of the matter is that there are many ailments for which Western medicine has no answers. This is where Ayurveda, Acupuncture and many holistic approaches come in. Unlike Western medicine Ayurveda treats the whole body and expects the patients to change their lifestyle and diet. The mental and the physical health of an individual is looked at. Many have found relief from Depression and other mental issues. Ayurveda is not about taking a pill and carrying on with your life.
Here is a story for Amrit Dhillon and Dr. Philips:
Rosemary Odinga, daughter of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, regained her lost eyesight through traditional Indian medicine. She lost her vision after a brain surgery in 2017. A brain tumor and an aneurysm (a weak, bulging blood vessel) caused damage to her optic nerve, causing it to shrink. This led to severe blindness. In 2019, she traveled to Kerala, India, and stayed at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre. Doctors there used specialized, natural Ayurvedic therapies. Rosemary Odinga fully restored her sight.
Amrit Dhillon thinks that by making false claims like BJP politicians recommended taking cow dung and urine for protection against Covid only sums up her antipathy towards Hindus. It is a pity that the Times journalism has flown so retro-regressively.
