On Saturday 28 March the annual Love Not Hate Event was held in Croydon. I was asked to speak on behalf of Hinduism. One thing that is plaguing this country is knife crime. In 2025 700 knife crimes, including threats and attacks, took place in England and Wales.
In my speech I said that in the Hindu Holy book the Bhagvad Gita, Lord Krishna says that one thing that is most destructive is anger. When anger takes over, one cannot think rationally. In a moment of madness and hatred one commits an act that destroys a persons life, his families life and the victim and his families. A moment of madness can end up one being in jail for life. We are taught not to harm even an insect. When we greet someone we fold our hands together. By that we mean that we bow down to God within you. We are taught to see God in everyone.
Schools must introduce anger management classes. Students must taught about empathy and compassion. In Hinduism, we are taught not to harm even an insect. We need to relook at our education system. Children must be made to understand the importance of respect for all life.
Children must also be made ever that their actions will ruin their lives.
