“Why I quit” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/series/why-i-quit

This is my reply sent to the Guardian and to Sangeeta.

Sangeet Pillai’s article, ‘I was supposed to be a good Indian woman, I chose freedom instead’ is full of self congratulatry , one upmanship on Indian traditions. Hundreds of thousands of ‘traditional’ Indian women have achieved academic and career success. No one has stopped them. Indian women are air force pilots and space scientists. On the global stage they are CEO’s of blue chip firms and holding some of the highest positions in the US space agency. They are some of the highest ranking pioneers in the field of Medicine, IT industry and much more. There are no glass ceilings for them in India. And yes they bring up a family and do not mind cooking and cleaning. All Sangeeta has done is to replace her imagined shackles with the shackles of feminism. The so called freedom of feminism is exactly what the men want. But we have been here before. Many feminists as they approach middle age and have children, quietly take on constant cooking and cleaning. They also dismiss feminism. Not realising that their ‘ advise’ to women ruined many lives while they abandon their moral high ground.
