Blindsided by Trump, Modi is learning hard lessons about India’s place in the new world order | Mukul Kesavan | The Guardian https://share.google/TkG4PyLQi0xGyqm3R

Mukul Kesavan and fellow Hindu haters like Amartya Sen and Salil Tripathi have been very quiet of late. They have been watching helplessly as PM Modi is being feted by world leaders and as India has become the 4th.largest  economy in the world with a GDP of $4.19 trillion in 2025.

They are like pariahs who are irrelevant and out of touch with the  world dynamics. The current spat between Trump and India is God send to Mukul. It has given him an opportunity to mock PM Modi. In the process however Mukul sounds like a Trump sycophant.

Mukul is so pleased at what he thinks is Modi’s and by extension India’s misfortune that he ends up giving many compliments to Trump. It almost sounds like Mukul is a closet Trump worshipper.

He starts by repeating the Trump claim that he brought to an end the India-Pakistan conflict. According to Mukul, Trump considers India and Pakistan unruly  nuisances. He further paraphrases Trump who claimed India is a dead economy. Mukul adds that his hero Trump’s 50% Tarrif on India was a punishment beating. Trump according to Mukul has disredited Modi’s efforts to play the well connected world stateman. The energetic huggings and over the top bonhomie seems gauche in retrospect he claims. In other words Mukul’s hero Trump has managed to negate Modi’s world popularity. Mukul is obviously blind to the fact that both Putin and Xi have shown immense respect for Modi.

Mukul further claims that for the last 25 years India had tilted towards the US and America was an aspirational destination for the children of India’s ruling elite. Yes Mukul all the 5.2 million Indians in US were children of India’s ruling elite. Amongst them are some of the greatest scientists, physicians, engineers and inventors without whom US would stop fuctioning.

To please the Guardian and his hero Trump, Mukul says that India is not rich enough or white enough or English enough to be admitted to the anglophone world. Yes Mukul your prejudice plays tricks with your memory. The UK has just signed a very much sought after free trade with India. Equally India has great partnership with France.

Having warmed to his theme Mukul now begins to talk for the US! He says US presidents have often seen India as either a supplicant or a nuisance or both! Wow you love the US and its presidents Mukul. Way back in 1971 during the Bangladedh war, India had shown US that it was not a supplicant by defying their threats. Today India is a mighty power willing to take on US or China. Mukul’s love for Trump grows in every sentence. Trump is above the curve claims Mukul. Western leaders Mukul says are too constrained by Liberal conditoning to utter. Utter what Mukul? Western leaders dislike Trump as much as anyone else. Hatred for Hindus has driven Mukul into the laps of Trump. He has lost his bearings. Mukul teaches Social History at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

This has been sent to Mukul.
