Atul Dev a New York based journalist has written the above article on Lawrence Bishnoi dated 23 April 2026. What caught my attention is that Atul has made many anti Hindu as well as anti Modi allegations which are malicious and designed to mislead the Guardian readers.
The article starts with the heading: ‘The Gangster who became an icon of Modi’s India’. Modi has been elected 3 times by the people of India. It is Modi who is the icon of India. Atul and his type indulge in demonising Modi because they are desperate and full of hatred. Atul claims India is adrift in lawless waters. India is actually doing great and more stable than his adopted land. There are challenges but India has enough strong institutions to overcome them.
Atul claims the Modi government carries out assassinations of opponents in foreign soil. He quotes the discredited former PM of Canada Justin Trudeau who alleged that India carried out targeted killings by the Bishnoi gang in Canada. To back up his claims Atul quotes a so-called former agent of RAW. It is quite likely that Atul has made this up. He then makes a comical comment. He quotes a former RAW agent as saying, ‘pretty much all the work we do has an inbuilt element of deniability’. Is that not what all secret services are about? Atul deliberately failed to mention what the current PM of Canada, Mark Carney (who assumed office in March 2025) has stated that Canada no longer believes India is currently linked to violent crimes or active foreign interference on Canadian soil.
Atul further claims that the law minister of Delhi where BJP is in power has been accused of inciting the most violent riots in the city. He does not name the minister, which is lazy journalism. The law minister is Parvesh Sahib Singh who has no connections with any riots.
Finally Atul describes meeting his college friends and drinking rum late into the night. One of his friends whose eyes were bubbling
