With the departure of PM Sir Keir Starmer it feels like Prime Ministers are replaced quicker than football managers. Here is a list of leaders that have come and gone.
David Cameron ( 2010 to June 2016)
Theresa May (July 2016 – July 2019)
Boris Johnson (July 2019 – September 2022) Liz Truss (September 2022 – October 2022) Rishi Sunak (October 2022 – July 2024) Sir Keir Starmer (July 2024 –)
There is something deeply disturbing and wrong with the oldest democracy of the world. That something is the calibre and the moral defeicit of our leaders. David Cameron for example gambled the future of the country by going ahead with the referendum on Brexit. I think it is pretty clear to everyone that leaving the EU has been a disaster for the country.
Boris Johnson believed himself to be above all norms associated with the highest office in the country. The way he broke Covid rules and above all how he paddeled a lie that the UK sent £350 million to the EU every week. This false claim probably swayed the public to back Brexit. Sir Keir Starmer in his debates with the then PM Rishi Sunak refused to say where he was going to get the money for all his grandiose plans. No wonder the country was stung with cuts and taxes. He has failed to halt the influx of thousands of refugees. Corruption and apathy is rife both in the Centre and the local Councils. The country is being pulled in different directions by vested interest groups and the politicians are just too willing to oblige. The way the politicians looked the other way when tens of thousands of white girls were abused by grooming gangs is an example of how low the political landscape has gone.
The need of the hour is to come together as one nation and minorities must join the mainstream for the good of the nation. It may seem that Andy Burnham is going to be handed a poisoned chalice but it is also an opportunity for him to turn the country round and reshape the politics of the country.
