The following article in the Times by Amrit Dhillon and my reply published in the Times comments page.
For all the morally outraged from Tunbridge Wells, wake up and smell the coffee. Modi has been elected twice by the people of India and is all set to win the third term. The people of India have seen a country transformed. The world’s fastest growing economy with which the leading European nations are lining up to sign trade agreements. The EU has just signed a £100 billion trade deal with India. Amrit Dhillon is always trying to win brownie points by writing what she thinks will please her Times readers. She insults the fiercely independent judiciary by claiming it is muzzled. She quotes Pew Research by claiming two-thirds of Indian’s back autocracy. What methodology did it use to make such a stupid claim. How many of the 1.3 billion Indians did it ask? So, who are the people running the Pew Research Centre? Well it is based in Washington, US. The word Pew means those long benches that people sit on in the Church. Pew is partly funded by the Templeton Foundation, whose founder Sir John Templeton was a Presbyterian Christian. It gave its first religious award to Mother Teresa, a prize money of $85000. Mother Teresa in turn, passed it on to the Vatican. Templeton Foundation has been criticised for undertaking Christian oriented research. Indians really do not care what the disgusted of Tunbridge Wells thinks. The days when they took instructions from them are well gone
