In the Saturday 23rd November 2024 issue of the Guardian Hannah has written an article titled, ‘ Who is Gautam Adani The Indian Billionaire Charged in the US over bribery plot’.
She goes on to list Adani’s massive conglomerate which has made him a billionaire. But like the Hindenburg report which tried to destroy Adani and failed, Hannah tries her hand at doing the demolition job. She claims PM Modi once flew in Adani’s private plane and that the two have been great friends since 2014. The implication is that Adani has got where he is due to the patronage of Modi. Hannah being a mere journalist cannot comprehend that Adani has the vision, the intellectual ability and the daring to start projects in many parts of the world. Is there envy in Western countries for his extraordinary achievements? Are they out to destroy him?
The US financial firm Hindenburg recently accused the Adani group of pulling off the biggest and largest corporate con in History. But all that hot air fizzled out into nothing. Hindenburg took no legal action against Adani. It was all talk and propaganda to destroy Adani. It did not work. Now the US indictment agency has accused Adani and his executives of trying to bribe Indian officials to the tune of millions of dollars. Where is the US indictment agency when the collosal trillions of dollars of debt the US treasury is in. There are so many other billionaires the US financial institutions can look into. Will Musk now be charged with the biggest fraud because he is a close ally of President Trump? Or is it okay for US billionaires to have friends in high places but not Indians?
Finally Hannah adds that an investigation by wait for it, ‘The Guardian Report on Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project’ found that Adani Group had used secret offshore funds to buy their own shares! I fell off the chair laughing! The Guardian built on the proceeds of Slave trade actually has the audacity to report on organised crime. The Guardian should thank its stars that Adani had no information on the Guardian report. It is after all a small time publication which is not likely to catch the eye of Adani. If he had known he would have sued the tabloid which would have sunk it. The Guardian would then have failed to pay reparations to victims of the Slave trade.
