What makes Indian vegetarians different from Westerners who have given up meat? Article published in the Scroll.in , April 2022
This is a biased article and the names of the two authors Aseem Hasnain and Abhilasha Srivastava. While the article draws a fairly accurate picture of the aspects that have driven the phenomenal growth of Meat and Dairy free lifestyle in the West the authors try to bring in Caste and also so called Guru cults as the cause of animal free diet in India. They conveniently forget the ancient Hindu spiritual heritage of Ahimsa. Compassion towards other life forms is the first principle of religions born in India namely Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism. Meat eating has been condemned in all these religions. It is a concept that is being taken up by people all over the world. The ancient sages of India knew the devastating impact Meat would have on people’s health, on the planet and the moral negativity it will bring on the Human race. Indeed the very first European Vegetarians in Europe took their inspiration from India.
This article tries to trivialize the Hindu concept of Ahimsa because it is becoming a world phenomena. This is an idea whose time has come and no amount of desperate attempt to snigger at it will work. The authors of this silly article should do themselves a favour and go Vegetarian/Vegan.
