Dear Editor

Smriti Singh’s article,’ British Indian’s have a racism problem, we have to be honest about it’ is disingenuous in trying to blame just the Hindu community for being racist. It is not only Hindus who use Whatsapp, many other groups use it to express a dislike for other racial groups. Using loaded words like Hindu fundamentalists only stirs up hatred of

Hindus. Hindus are the majority in India and their values and ethos will be prevalent just as in the UK Christian ethos and values are prevalent. It takes nothing away from the minorities. Smriti accuses India of accepting persecuted Hindus from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh and not Muslims. Hindus and Sikhs have no other place to turn to. Smriti goes on to play the victim card by repeating what has become a fashion statement these days that she faced racism in the UK.  However she immediately weakens her argument by claiming that Britain is tolerant enough to have an Indian candidate for the position of the Prime Minister. India has had Muslim Presidents, Ministers and they continue to be in high profile occupations. There are many other persecuted minorities like the Zoroastrians and the Bahai and Tibetan Buddhists who are living happily in India. Smriti should look at her own prejudices.
