In the comments page of the Times on 7 September 2022, a deluge of negative comments on
Priti Patel were published. She was described as a bully presumably for getting the civil
servants in her department to get the jobs assigned to them completed. She was also
criticized for lacking empathy towards illegal migrants coming in their thousands. How as a
daughter of immigrants can she do that they asked. The following reply of mine was published.
My response:
She is cold and without any empathy all of you scream. We had a 1000 migrants in one day.
Hope some of those with empathy will take them in. Meanwhile the migrants will keep coming.
Find them schools, jobs, NHS care and much more. Much is made of Priti being a daughter of
immigrants, Does that mean that a serious crisis should not be resolved by her? By that logic no
Australians or Americans would have any right to control immigration because they themselves
were immigrants. I suspect there is something else that is bringing about such nastiness
towards Priti. I wonder what it is?
Some one replied that I was missing the bigger picture. I said I certainly was!
Another comment was that, ‘ playing the race card was the last refuge of a scoundrel!
I remarked. ‘ I thought patriotism was the last refuge of a scoundrel!
